Known issueSome of the android apps are still unable to connect to mobile data network if the SIM PIN code is entered after a measurable delay on boot up. This is due to the incorrect 3G connectivity detection API used by them.
There are 2 ways out of this situation:Reboot the device and enter the PIN code promptly when asked ORRestart android runtime service as follows from the Terminal app (requires developer mode enabled ) [[email protected] ~]$ devel-suPassword:[[email protected] nemo]# systemctl stop aliendalvik.service[[email protected] nemo]# systemctl start aliendalvik.serviceWith this update, Jolla locked the boot loader and made it impossible to boot custom kernels or unlock the boot loader.Very disappointing behaviour by Jolla especially after all the publicly stated claims to support FOSS principles. If you cannot have full and unfettered access to hardware that you have purchased you may as well throw it into the sea.Locking the boot loader means it is harder to ensure that NSA, GCHQ or other snoopers are kept out of your system uninstall f-secure nokia e7 uninstall f-secure nokia e7. Makes me wonder if there was any pressure applied to the Jolla team from interested parties like the Chinese to lock down these phones for the purposes of state control of users.Just so glad I read this before updating my phone. Unless this policy is reversed then this will be the fastest self obsoleting piece of hardware I have ever purchasedRichardthere is a reason for that and it will be opened again:Tinker-ability regressionDue to the bug fix to protect user privacy, it is not currently possible to utilize the fastboot protocol to boot other kernels. This is naturally a regression in tinker-ability and a temporary problem that we will fix in an upcoming update when it can be done in a secure manner with respect to device lock and user privacy. There is no intention to lock down the device and disallow tinkering and we’ll seek to remedy this regression when possible.Source:https://together.jolla.com/question/3612/release-notes-software-update-2... already considering returning my phone as I have big big troubles importing the contacts (why not include an import all vcf contacts?) and the import doesn’t mention which contacts caused errors.400€ buys me a good android phone, Jolla has potential but what we are using now is an Alpha OS, this is not beta at all. There’s no USB host functionality (absurd for a phone of that price) and the phone does mount as USB drive only on windows 7, it does not mount on my linux installation and on my windows xp laptop. these are major issues for a device.I also haven’t been able to easily change the screen background.. I’ll have to read the docs or google it.No multiple presaved profiles like symbian, not effective contact management, I found 3 bugs so far and I don’t know how to report them.OK, so after the first post stating the update worked fine, now I don’t know.
I still get a repeated notification that the update is available in the notifications pane, it will not go. Try to run the update again, says it is installed. Still tells me that it is available in notifications though. So, after discovering there is no TV out facility when I took the ‘multi-function’ device on holiday I thus reverted to the good old trusty N9. Reading about the boot loader just adds to the concern about this Finnish company that seems to now be visibly oriental facing.Thought also worth mentioning that now the phone won’t see the SD card even with native Jolla apps so is absolutely pointless as even using the other route by trying to open just an MP3 file through the file explorer fails to function.Surely mounting a drive is a basic linux function?Jolla would have been better off spending no time developing ‘The other half’ and more time developing the core functions that all of your long time supporters thought would have been seen as the ‘must haves’ for release date.We know you’re going to get the grief from people that expected a fully loaded Android/IOS/Mokia competitor and don’t know better f-secure nokia e7. Others of us that expected the transparency and actual involvement in helping Jolla to make this work are left wondering where the techs have gone and what their priorities are?Wonder how much the Chinese/Russian influences are taking effect so we now have the choice of Mokia/HTC/Apple NSA coded devices or Jolla FSB/MSS coded devices? Is so sad as the principles are very well founded and the support is(was?) there for Jolla all over the world. The release and implementation is showing the lack of maturity of the organisation and more worryingly the perceived controls from outside organisations.I’m not giving up yet.
I’ll be expecting to see some major press releases soon to explain a roadmap for application and core functionality support that gives dates (even if hopeful and not met) people can look to and thus set expectations. The longer you leave speculation to run wildly, the worse your rep will become. When was the last update on Jolla website or Jolla Tides? Both front pages haven’t changed in the past two weeks and I’m not going to chase around Facebook and Twitter to find updates. If you’ve got time to write to those, you obviously need to redirect employee funding to tech and not twatterers..@Lauri MalkI use the phone all the time and can say that the reception/network connection is among the best smartphones I’ve used (and I’ve tried most major OS’s now) f-secure nokia e7. For example, many phones I used would struggle to even get a bar at home and drop calls all the time… but my Jolla is really great – no dropped calls and great reception certainly for 2G/3G.You’ll need to contact [email protected] after you’ve at least tried some basic troubleshooting ie. take sim card out polish contacts etc.
Could it be you have an old sim card that needs replacing?
